H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has warmly welcomed the invitation the UAE has received from the Federal Republic of Brazil to participate in the G20 for 2024.
“The UAE’s participation in G20 for the third consecutive year and for the fifth time since the group’s inception, reflects the sustainable partnership that has been established between the United Arab Emirates and the G20, and embodies the growing relations and strategic partnership between the UAE and Brazil across all fields,” the UAE Top Diplomat said.
“The UAE wholeheartedly supports the G20 presidency of the Federal Republic of Brazil. This invitation to participate as a guest country underscores the profound ties and flourishing partnership between our two nations, and reinforces our joint commitment to fueling global sustainable growth across diverse sectors,” Sheikh Abdullah added.
He noted the determination of the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to “continue to prioritise multilateralism, diversity, cooperation, and partnerships with key international organisations. Through these multilateral efforts, the UAE aims to foster global peace and development for the prosperity of all peoples of the world.”
“The United Arab Emirates has consistently made impactful contributions to G20 priorities as a guest country. These contributions have spanned crucial issues like post-pandemic recovery, climate change, the energy transition, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Notably, the UAE’s leadership was evident in the G20 editions in France in 2011, in Saudi Arabia in 2020, in Indonesia in 2022, and most recently, India in 2023.
“The United Arab Emirates has recently hosted an exceptional edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28. The meetings and negotiations of COP28 resulted in the historic ‘UAE Consensus’ by 198 Parties to deliver a new era of climate action in accordance with an ambitious and effective plan.”
Following this invitation, the United Arab Emirates participated in the first meeting of the G20 Sherpas in the Brazilian capital, Brasília, from December 11 to 13, 2023, where the Brazilian presidency reviewed their priorities for 2024, and several files and major issues on the G20 Agenda were discussed.
In this regard, Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State and UAE G20 Sherpa, pointed to the importance of the Emirates’ participation in the G20 for the third consecutive year, and for the fourth time since 2020.
He also expressed the United Arab Emirates’ support for the priorities announced by Brazil for the G20, which focus on combating hunger and poverty, and driving sustainable development, energy transitions, and global governance.
The minister underscored the need to build on the outputs and major successes achieved during the COP28, during which the landmark agreement, aptly named “The UAE Consensus,” has been reached.
Under the total Action Agenda at COP28, over $85 billion in funding has been mobilised and 11 pledges and declarations have been launched and received historic support.
