The first stage of the humanitarian missions of the Zayed Giving Initiative convoys in Somali villages has been completed with the diagnostic, surgical and preventative treatment of over 5,000 children and elderly patients in the Emirati-Somali mobile field hospital.
The hospital is supervised by an Emirati-Somali volunteer medical team, in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for 2017 to be the #Year of Giving and coinciding with the “For You, Somalia” campaign. The campaign is part of a joint humanitarian initiative by the Zayed Giving Initiative, Dar Al Ber Society, Sharjah Charity House and the Saudi-German Hospital, under the supervision of the Emirates Volunteering Centre.
Emirati heart surgeon Dr. Adel Al Shamri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative, Chairman of the Emirates Programme for Specialised Volunteering and Head of UAE Doctors, stressed that the Zayed Giving Initiative has aimed, since its launch 17 years ago, to adopt local and international voluntary plans and projects while working with innovative partners from government and private institutions. Its humanitarian message has reached millions of people, providing them with free medical treatment regardless of colour, sex, religion or race.
He highlighted the success of the medical convoys in their current station in Hargeisa, along with the efforts of its Emirati and Somali volunteers and its partners, providing a proud model of giving and field volunteering to decrease the suffering of vulnerable patients.
Local Somali officials expressed their appreciation to the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of
Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for their global humanitarian initiatives.
