A workshop on reviewing UAE trade policy has been held by the Ministry of Economy in the presence of representatives of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) recently in Dubai.
The workshop, which was attended by Juma Mohammed Al-Kait, Assistant Under-Secretary for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Economy, overviewed the measures taken to review the UAE trade policy in light of the remarks and recommendations provided by WTO and in line with the trade reform priorities set by the UAE government.
“The workshop is aimed to enhance the awareness of all our strategic partners from different federal departments concerned and come up with the best possible approach to enhance the economic stature boasted by the country in furtherance of its developmental strategy,” said Al Kait.
The meeting also fits within the close collaboration between the ministry and WTO as part of the country’s efforts to strengthen its relations with world markets, he added, noting that the UAE adopts a policy of trade openness out of its solid belief that economic openness is the key for ensuring comprehensive development and competitiveness.
The UAE is a role model for economic diversification and comprehensive developmental strategies, said John Finn, of the WTO trade policy review team, adding that the UAE adopts a trade policy that serves the goals of world trade and streamline global trade traffic.
The workshop was attended by more than 45 representatives of the UAE federal and local government departments concerned with foreign trade policy.
