The Emirate of Dubai is attracting a growing number of newly established Gulf companies, maintaining its competitive business and investment edge, according to statistics released by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) recently.
In a statement to Sharjah-based Al Khaleej newspaper, Hamad Buamim, DCCI Director-General, said that up to 905 new Gulf companies joined DCCI in 2016, out of 16,800 firms that came aboard last year.
The increasing number of the Gulf companies reflects the robust business relations between the UAE and other GCC states and the growing business competitiveness boasted by Dubai as a global business hub despite the current global economic challenges, he add.
“The Gulf companies which joined DCCI operate in different business streams, including construction material, tourism and healthcare,” he said
According to DCCI statistics, the number of newly joining Saudi companies increased by 31 percent to 2083 in 2016 from 1587 in 2015. Qatari companies rose to 295 by end of 2016, a 21 percent increase over 2015, with Omani companies up by 18.6 percent from 498 in 2015 to 591 in 2016.
