The UAE seeks to be a key member of the executive council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2017, a cabinet minister has said.
“We obtained the necessary approvals from the concerned authorities in the UAE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and will work closely with the stakeholders, ports and everyone in the maritime sector to have a permanent representation in the International Maritime Organisation in London,” Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority-Land and Maritime, said, at the UAE Summit of Marine and Maritime Leaders, held recently in Abu Dhabi.
Organised by the Emirates Classification Society, Tasneef, the summit brought world’s attention to the added value the UAE’s state-of-the-art marine infrastructure and strategic location offer, supporting the UAE’s National Agenda to be the best destination in the maritime industry.
“We strive to have a key role in the IMO that reflects the importance of the maritime sector for the UAE and for the people in this filed, while working to have a greater role in this sector,” the minister added.
