Dubai Municipality (DM) has clarified its stand on the issue of a product known as Green Coffee 1000, which claims to have weight loss benefits.
The Municipality said that the issue of Green Coffee 1000 is not a rumour to be confirmed or denied. According to a press release issued by the UAE Ministry of Health in May 2013, it was announced that the product contains globally banned substances that cause serious health side effects, is not registered in the country, and its sale is prohibited. Global health authorities such as the US Food and Drug Administration had warned the public to avoid the use of such products.
In its press release, the Health Ministry gave further details, saying that the Pharmacy Inspection Section at the ministry had referred samples of Green Coffee 1000 powder to food control laboratories and the results indicated the presence of hazardous substances such as Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein.
The laboratory report showed that there are many caveats when using Sibutramine because they increase the risk of heart attack and stroke for patients who have a history of heart and blood vessel problems.
