The Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) announced that the emirate earned AED200 million in tourism revenues from a total of 272,021 visitors in the
first half of 2016. Tourism revenues from April to June 2016 reached AED92 million, 11 percent higher compared to the same period
in 2015. Total guests for the period are 129,617 from 119,376 in
2015. Three Furnished Apartments are added to the inventory of
establishments during the three month period.
Occupancy rate for the second quarter is reported at 63 percent for hotels while hotel apartments has 68 percent occupancy rate.
HE Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager, said: “The increase for the second quarter of 2016 may be minimal but it is still a significant increase because when combined with the revenue of the first quarter, the result is very encouraging. Factors such as the fall in oil prices, currency fluctuations and geopolitical situation are impacting industry performance but as the report indicated, the numbers of visitors are picking up which means tourists view the UAE as a safe destination with our stable and economic environment and a diverse range of offerings that attract both existing and potential markets.â€
Guest nights for the second quarter reached 293,512 with majority of the guests staying at five- and four-star hotels and superior and standard hotel apartments. Local tourists still top the emirate’s guests followed by visitors from Asia and Africa, other Arab countries and GCC nationals. Europeans, Americans and Russian visitors comprised more than 30,000 of the total guests.
With the addition of three Furnished Apartments to the inventory, Ajman has 39 establishments with total 3,392 hotel rooms and units and 5,737 beds. Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) was established by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashed Al-Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.
ATDD aims to highlight the importance of tourist attractions available in the Emirate of Ajman, and lay down strategic plans for tourism promotion, locally, regionally and internationally, via holding/participating in conferences, exhibitions, and international promotion campaigns. ATDD also works on organizing and developing the tourism industry in the Emirate of Ajman, improving the potentials and services of tourism facilities with the aim of increasing national income.
ATDD is also responsible for preparing legislations, rules and regulations needed to organize and develop the tourism sector in the Emirate in cooperation with competent authorities.
It also supervises tourist attractions in the Emirate, and makes sure that the facilities provided go in line with world standards with aim of luring tourists from around the world.
Classification of hotel establishments and facilities and supervising their tourist-oriented services, licensing and classification of tourism and travel agencies and supervising their performance also come high on the agenda of ATDD.
