Britain’s aviation regulator delayed a decision on fee hikes at London Heathrow airport as it evaluates how a UK recession and rising interest rates are likely to impact travel demand.
An interim charge of £31.57 ($38) per passenger should be applied from February through the rest of 2023 pending a final ruling on a five-year charging structure, the Civil Aviation Authority said in a filing.
The decision met with hostility from airlines at Heathrow, which already has some of the highest fees in the world. IAG, owner of British Airways, said next year’s levy will be 56% higher than in 2021.
