Region’s only high-tech hide producer

Al Khaznah Tannery uses only natural ingredients to treat its superior range of camel leather, and is one of the few tanneries worldwide equipped to recycle up to 80 percent of water required in production. Al Khaznah camel hide is notable for being a total biodegradable within four months of production, and is completely chrome-free.
Mohammed Ghanem Al Mansoori, General Manager, Al Khazanah, said, “Al Khaznah is the only factory in the Middle East who are using the new technology to produce leather in the region. We have chrome free hide leather from camels, cows, etc. our product is 100 percent metal free.”
The Abu Dhabi-based facility, owned by the Abu Dhabi government, produces about 4.2 million sq-ft of camel leather annually, and counts leading international fashion houses, designers, airlines, footwear and accessories manufacturers among its clientele.
Emirates only hide producer Al Khazanah, known as the most technologically advanced Abu Dhabi tannery. This Dubai-based start-up aims to earn a global name in leather accessories.
“With the increase in demand of chrome free leather worldwide, we are concentrating on producing sustainable products. Recently concluded Leatherworld exhibition was a great platform for us to get connected with the other companies in the business, as we aim to expand our operations and start exporting very soon, we are primarily focussing the Europe and southeast Asia market,” he added.
Regular customers of Al Khaznah’s camel leather — which has ten times the fibre structure of cow hide — include designer shoe manufacturer Pierre Corthay, luxury watch maison Roger Dubuis, architect Philippe Starck, and super yacht designers Cyrille Bieri and Gulf Craft and Etihad Airlines.
Renowned Emirati artist Zeinab Alhashemi has also used Al Khaznah’s hides for her recent exhibiton in Abu Dhabi titled Camoulflage. In addition to being used in the manufacture of shoes, fabric and upholstery for hotels, airlines, watches, and boats. Al Khaznah camel hide can also be seen in exclusive European contemporary furniture.
“We expertise in colouring and deem in delivering a high-end soft hide. Our products have a double coating, with two layers of hide compressed together. We are the founding sponsors of the Leatherworld, and considering last year’s edition being introductory we have expected a good response this year.”
Al Khaznah Tannery, who
participated at Leatherworld Middle East for the second straight time this year, following a successful outing at the inaugural event in 2015, is now looking forward to boost its local partnerships and grow its export markets in the UAE and in the Middle East region.
