A woman in her 60s has tested positive for the coronavirus after disembarking from the cruise ship docked in Yokohama following a two-week quarantine, according to a statement from the Tochigi prefecture.
The patient, who tested negative for the virus on February 14 on board the Diamond Princess, returned to her home in the Tochigi prefecture, near Tokyo, on February 19, national broadcaster NHK reported.
She developed a fever on February 21 and tested positive on February 22, according to the statement.
The patient is the first to be confirmed with the virus after disembarking from the vessel and comes amid increasing skepticism over Japan’s handling of the situation. NHK reported a third death from the cruise ship on Sunday.
