As part of the third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, the Global Future Council on Virtual and Augmented Reality explored the opportunities and challenges of virtual reality with the prevalence of future technologies in different aspects of our daily life, where electronic devices and innovations became an integral part of it.
The participants discussed the future of virtual reality technologies that have become more prevalent at a time that witnesses a decline in the cost of acquiring advanced technologies and devices. The number of fields and uses of these technologies in the connected world is also increasing.
The meeting stressed the importance of conducting studies to identify sectors where these technologies can make positive social impacts such as healthcare and education, as well as fields where they can lead to inadvertent consequences.
The meeting recommended considering the use of virtual reality technologies in accordance with a set of standards in key sectors in order to ideally benefit from them and limit their negative impacts on the society.
The third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils is held in Dubai, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in collaboration between the UAE Government and the World Economic Forum. The meetings bring together more than 700 of the most relevant and knowledgeable scientists, futurists and experts, grouped in 38 expertise-based, thematic councils that discuss the future of vital sectors and develop practical solutions to challenging issues.
