Prospects of promoting bilateral relations between the two countries were the underlying topic of discussion of the meeting Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, had with his Lithuanian counterpart, Virginijus Sinkevicius, with special emphasis on Lithuania’s participation in the EXPO Dubai 2020.
The Lithuanian minister said the UAE is the second trade partner of Lithuania in the Gulf, with bilateral trade exchange increasing five fold over the past five years, and Lithuania’s exports to the UAE growing by 73 percent, while the total volume of foreign trade between the two countries during 2017 stood at $90 million.
“The Lithuanian community in the UAE is the largest in the region, and the coming period is going to witness more growth in bilateral ties specially after the Lithuanian President opened the Lithuanian Business Association in Dubai during his last visit recently. Al Mansouri underlined the importance of establishing a joint economic committee between two countries and accelerating collaboration in areas of tourism.
The Lithuanian minister noted that cooperation in the aviation domain will create favourable business opportunities for Emirati companies as Vilnius airports are being heavily used by travelers coming from Belorussia, estimated at 10 million travelers, in addition to 3 million Lithuanians using the terminals.
