VP, WTO chief discuss global trade, economic situation

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Tuesday received Roberto Azevedo, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), who is participating at the World Government Summit (WGS 2018).
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed and Azevedo discussed a number of topics related to global trade and current economic situation, and ways to enhance trade between countries and maintaining regulations that protects WTO’s members.
The meeting was attended by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future and Chairman of the WGS, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of Dubai Ruler’s Court, and Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of the Dubai Protocol and Hospitality Department.

VP receives Antigua and Barbuda PM
HH Sheikh Mohammed also received Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, who is participating at the WGS 2018.
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed welcomed Browne and discussed with him bilateral relations and ways of finding new mechanisms to strengthen cooperation, especially in the
culture, tourism and investment sectors.
The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda commended the civilisational progress witnessed by the UAE, pointing out to the country’s infrastructure that, he described, as meeting the international standards.

VP attends signing of MoU between UAE and Portugal
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, accompanied by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attended a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between the UAE and Portugal to enhance cooperation in the field of developing public administration.
The MoU was signed by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future and Portugal’s Minister of the Presidency and of Administrative Modernisation, Maria Manuel Leitao Marques on the sidelines of WGS 2018.
Al Gergawi asserted that the UAE Government is keen to enhance cooperation with countries that share the same vision towards a better future. He also highlighted the importance of this step that reflects the leadership’s vision towards boosting UAE’s global position by constructing new partnerships that help promote best governance practices. The World Government Summit plays a significant role in formulating global trends as it serves as an interactive platform for international cooperation between governments, he added.
The MoU furnishes for a better collaboration and knowledge sharing between UAE and Portugal in fields of public governance, digitisation, and e-government; sectors that enhance happiness and quality of life while motivating innovation and excellence. According to the MoU, a joint committee will be formed to oversee the implementation of the agreement.
