AED396 million worth of business deals were sealed at the 17th edition of the Dubai World Dermatology and Laser Conference and Exhibition, known as Dubai Derma, which concluded on Wednesday.
Some 540 companies from 85 countries took part in the three-day event, which included participation from around 15,000 visitors, according to Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of Dubai Derma.
“Dubai Derma has succeeded over the past years to attract local and international doctors, professors, and specialists in the field of dermatology and skincare. Today, we are proud that Dubai Derma has succeeded in becoming the largest specialised event in dermatology and laser fields in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia region, and we look forward to letting it be the largest in the world,” he said.
The scientific committee for Dubai Derma also announced on Wednesday the recommendations for the Dubai Derma Conference’s 17th edition.
Dr. Ibrahim Galadari, Chairman of the Dubai Derma Conference and Professor of Dermatology at the UAE University, made the announcement. The recommendations include renewing the Arab Board of Dermatology membership every 10 years, like the American board. This recommendation is to be submitted to the Supreme Council of the Arab Board for discussion during its next meeting in the Kingdom of Bahrain in November.
Another recommendation is to increase medical facilities supervisory personnel working in the field of cosmetics, and strengthening the scientific requirements for both doctors and technicians to obtain a license to practice the profession.
Others include tightening controls on the use of cosmetic treatments, especially laser, Botox and fillers to avoid medical errors and malpractice, as well as supporting trainees and doctors registered for training programmes, such as the Arab Board and other local specialised programmes, and, to ensure that these training courses are raising the efficiency of doctors in their specialties.
The organising committee of the Dubai Derma entered a bid to the International League of Dermatological Society to host the World Congress of Dermatology 2023 in Dubai. Dubai’s application will be voted on at the next edition of the conference in Milan 2019.
Dr. Galadari said, “The third and final day of the conference was held on the sidelines of the meeting of the Pan Arab League of Dermatology, to urge Arab countries to vote in favour of Dubai’s application to host this event.”
Dubai Derma was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority. The event is organised annually by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions, a member of INDEX Holding, in collaboration with the International Academy of Medical Specialisation, Pan Arab League of Dermatology and the GCC League of Dermatologists, and is supported by Dubai Health Authority.
