Uber to take drivers’ rights appeal to ‘UK court’

Bloomberg

Uber Technologies Inc. asked the UK Supreme Court to rule on its appeal over whether it has to pay drivers for overtime and during vacations. Lawyers for the company filed a permission to appeal application that would see the issues skip the Court of Appeal entirely, an Uber spokesman said.
Uber has lost at two separate courts in the suit challenging the way it treats workers. The case, brought by two drivers, was the first against the company in Britain and could have ramifications for thousands of workers there. If Uber loses again, the company will have to fundamentally change the way its interaction with the workforce.
Judges in the UK have tended to demonstrate sympathy for the argument that the workers should receive more protection. Deliveroo, a London-based food-delivery company, is also being sued by dozens of riders.
