Khalifa Ahmed Al Ali, Managing Director of the Food Security Centre, emphasised that the UAE has become a key point in providing food supplies to the region, while revealing that the country is 33rd in world food security rankings.
In his statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Ali said that World Food Day — which is marked on October 16 every year — is an opportunity to assist national and international policies aimed at eliminating problems related to the growing number of starving people globally, which is increasing annually, and has reac-hed nearly 820 million in 2017.
He added the paradigm shift achieved in food security by UAE is not limited to local level. Its impact, he said, has reached abr-oad as the UAE has supported and implemented many agricultural, livestock, and fishery development projects globally.
Al Ali highlighted role of Emirati private sector in strengthening food security, pointing to the acquisition by UAE companies of a large proportion of the largest agricultural projects abroad. Meanwhile, the MD said that the UAE will host Agriscape, the International Exhibition on Agricultural Investments Abro-ad, from October 29 to 30.
