UAE, Kazakhstan discuss ways to promote tolerance

Emirati and Kazakh officials discussed ways of promoting co-operation and co-ordination on religious affairs to project the genuine and bright image of Islam, its upholding of ethical and human values as well as its call to spread tolerance and peaceful co-existence and reject fanaticism, extremism and terrorism.
Chairman of the UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr. Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, and Kazakh Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society Nurlan Yermekbayev, in a meeting attended by Ambassador of Kazakhstan to UAE Kairat Lama Sharif, also discussed a draft memorandum of understanding that will be signed at a later stage. Yermekbayev lauded the UAE’s experience in establishing an approach to moderation and tolerance, and thanked the Emirati Authority for promoting co-operation aimed at serving Muslims, Islam and the entire humanity.
Dr. Al Kaabi spoke about the achievements made by General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments in its quest to promote a moderate religious rhetoric, tolerance and moderation as an established approach in the UAE and develop a unified authority for fatwas, or religious rulings. He further noted that the support being extended to the Authority by the UAE leadership was instrumental in presenting better services to the public and winning awards at the domestic, regional and international levels.
