‘UAE efforts for peaceful N-energy appreciated globally’

Hamad Ali Al Kaabi, UAE’s Permanent Representative at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that hosting of the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century by the UAE demonstrated the world’s acknowledgement and appreciation of the country’s efforts to produce peaceful nuclear energy.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, he said that organising this event in Abu Dhabi was considered among the important steps taken by the UAE. This international conference is held every four years and is being held for the first time in the Middle East, he added.
He affirmed that this conference was significant because it discussed the role of nuclear energy in contributing towards achieving sustainable development goals and supporting the efforts aimed at reducing the effects of climate change.
Al Kaabi explained that since the beginning of the implementation of the country’s peaceful nuclear energy project, the UAE had cooperated closely with IAEA by adopting principles and standards of the agency in the implementation of the UAE’s Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme.
“We have benefitted from the technical support of the IAEA in development of infrastructure and human capacity building areas; the agency has also helped us in measuring the progress of our peaceful nuclear programme,” he remarked, revealing that the UAE had received nine evaluation missions from the agency covering a variety of areas.
He expressed his pride in UAE’s hosting of international conference attended by world leaders and experts in nuclear energy and said this event represents a unique opportunity to analyse new developments in nuclear energy sector.

The Permanent Mission of the UAE acts as the main liaison between the UAE Government and the IAEA, and the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation, CTBTO, in Vienna, Austria.
