SWMF to organize piano competition in Sharjah

The fourth edition of the Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF 2017), organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre and sponsored by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), announced that it will be holding an eight-day talent hunt on the sidelines of the event to discover the festival-goers most gifted pianists.
The competition, from January 7-14, will be held daily from 7pm to 8pm at Al Qasba, Sharjah’s popular family and tourist destination.
Artist Furat Qaddouri, Manager of Sharjah World Music Festival, said: “This falls perfectly into line with the festival’s vision to develop a rich musical culture in the UAE and encourage new talent. The competition will give people of all age groups and nationalities the opportunity to demonstrate their finesse on the piano before an audience of cultural enthusiasts and musical experts. The contest aims to identify accomplished musicians, provide them with a platform to showcase their art and help them build confidence in their performances. It will also encourage other music enthusiasts to start playing a musical instrument.”
Participants will be judged by a jury of music experts, piano instructors and other musical aficionados as well as the audition panel of the Federal Council of the Royal Academy of Music in London.The festival’s management will award cash prizes for first, second and third places at the end of the competition. The fourth edition of Sharjah World Music Festival will run from the January, 6-14 2017 in celebration of the best Arabic and Western musicians and bands from 14 countries. Every year, the SWMF hosts a collection of renowned singers, musicians and artists. Although the concerts’ titles and languages may differ, they all converge at one place, Sharjah, and fulfil their overarching purpose of entertaining and enlightening visitors from several countries and walks of life.
By organising this first of its kind festival, Furat Qaddouri Music Centre seeks to boost the cultural and art presence of Sharjah and the UAE, introduce various musical cultures around the world to the UAE community and add a new dimension to the emirate’s repertoire of tourist, art and culture attractions.
