Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, stated that the people of the UAE are the cornerstone of the country’s development and endeavours to reduce energy and water consumption while increasing the use of solar energy in
private properties.
In his speech at the annual International Energy Day on Sunday, Al Mazrouei emphasised that
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice
President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai and
Minister of Defence, had, during the World Energy Forum 2012, suggested creating the International Energy Day Initiative,
which was subsequently adopted by as many as 56 countries, as well as the United Nations (UN), the League of Arab States and the African Union.
He explained that the ‘Dubai Declaration’, which was issued under the title, ‘Energy for All’, has dedicated October 22 of each year to raising awareness on the importance of reducing energy consumption and achieving sustainability.
In January, the UAE adopted the National Energy Strategy 2050, with the aim of saving energy in the country, according to a set of principles that consist of maintaining energy production while diversifying its sources, to achieve happiness and prosperity, the minister continued.
Al Mazrouei added that it is
essential to involve all segm-
ents of the community in these
efforts. “Therefore, the Ministry
of Energy and Industry, in
cooperation and coordination with the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care,
will celebrate International
Energy Day with people ofdetermination, with the aim of rais-
ing awareness about the importance of preserving energy
and water.â€
Dr Matar Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Industry, said that InternationalEnergy Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about
energy sustainability around
the world, as a key driver of the world economy.
