Passenger traffic up 11.55 percent at Sharjah Int’l Airport in H1

The Sharjah International Airport reported an 11.55 percent increase in passenger traffic in the first half of 2016, compared to the same half of 2015.
The Sharjah Airport Authority said the airport welcomed more than 5.35 million passengers from January to June, compared to 4.79 million passengers for the same period last year.
There were more than 36,000 aircraft movements registered in the first half of this year, reflecting an increase of 5.74 percent, compared to 34,000 in the same period last year. The freight handled in the same period of this year was recorded as being more than 92,000 tons, and the Sea-Air cargo was recorded as being more than 6,000 tons.
Commenting on the traffic report, Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, stated: “The positive performance in passenger traffic in this period was due to the opening of new airlines and flights to new destinations.
