‘Nimran’ crowned champion of Adnoc 22-foot sailing race

The loader “Nimran”, owned by Al Nokhatha Majed Ahmed Abdullah Al Marzouqi, was crowned champion of Adnoc 22-foot sailing race, organised by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club on Saturday. The race witnessed the remarkable participation of sailing loaders from various emirates. The champion loader won 30 thousand dirhams as first place prize.
The race, which is the second round for this category, started from A’Ali area in Lulu Island, for a distance of 7 nautical miles, towards the finish line at the flagpole on Abu Dhabi Corniche. A very strong competition between the bearings participating in all stages was on display.
In the second place came “Rajam.” Owned by Ahmed Tarish Ateeq Al Qubaisi and led by Al Nokhatha Khalifa Ahmed Tarish Al Qubaisi, “Rajam” received 29 thousand dirhams. “Muhajir”, owned by Majed Ahmed Khadim Al Muhairi, came in third place led by Al Nokhatha Khalfan Majid Ahmed Al Muhairi and won 27 thousand dirhams. The fourth place went to “Hasheem” for its owner Al Nokhatha Mohammad Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi and got 26 thousand dirhams. The fifth place went to the loader “Dahis” for its owner Al Nokhatha Abdul Rahman Abdullah Muhammad Al Marzouqi and got 24 thousand dirhams.
Achieving the sixth place “Al Saab”, owned by Rashid Hassan Ali Al Housani and led by Al Nokhatha Sultan Muhammad Al Marzouqi, won 22 thousand dirhams. “Dhiban” came in seventh place, owned by Ali Tarish Ateeq Ahmed Al Qubaisi and led by Al Nokhatha Tarish Ali Tarish Ateeq Al Qubaisi, winning 20 thousand dirhams.
The loader “Abu Dhabi”, owned by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and led by Al Nokhatha Ahmed Ismail Ahmed Al Marzouqi, came in the eighth place and won 18 thousand dirhams as its first participation in the races led by graduates of “Al Nokhatha Junior” program, which was launched by Abu Dhabi Academy for Marine Sports in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Sports Council with the aim of qualifying young sailors and providing them with experience to compete in heritage races.
In the ninth place came “Barq”, owned by Jaber Mohammad Jaber Al Hammadi and led by Al Nokhatha Al Harith Ismail Ibrahim Al Ali, winning 16 thousand dirhams. The tenth place went to the loader “Toofan”, owned by Ahmed Ismail Ahmed Al Marzouqi and led by Al Nokhatha Zayed Sultan Saeed Al Dhaheri, winning 14 thousand dirhams.
The race was organised within the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club’s marine season and activities of the year 2023, which includes many heritage races for different groups supporting the efforts to preserve marine heritage and to introduce young sailors to it.
The first round witnessed the crowning of the loader “Hasheem” for its owner Al Nokhatha Mohammed Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi with the title of the Sheikh Zayed Festival for sailing bearings in the 22-foot category.
The winners were crowned by Salem Al Rumaithi, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, Mubarak Amer Al Muhairbi, Senior Vice President of Administrative Affairs for Group and Community Services at Adnoc, Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director of the Marine Sports Department at the club, and Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Head of the Heritage Races Department at the club.
Khalifa Al Rumaithi appreciated the efforts made by all the sectors in order to preserve the ancient maritime heritage of the United Arab Emirates and pass it on to subsequent generations, with all its traditions and details that encourage seagoing, teamwork that leads to success, and the confidence that every sailor showed during the race.
Al Rumaithi praised the enthusiasm shown by the sailors during the race to reach the finish line first, which was an immense challenge in itself for all the participants, painting a distinct picture of efforts, contributions, patience and courage of the youth. It showcased a celebration of heritage and offered the partcipants wonderful moments. It was a beautiful scene to behold by those present on Abu Dhabi Corniche.
“What the youth presented during the first and second rounds of the 22-foot sailing bearings confirms their desire to support efforts to preserve the Emirati maritime heritage and enhance its position, as well as their passion to participate in heritage races in order to win, and gradually reaching the level enabling them to participate in the races of larger categories in the future” he said.
Khalifa Al Rumaithi praised the performance of sailors of the loader “Abu Dhabi” owned by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, who finished eighth in the race, pointing that the sailors graduated from Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club Academy through “Al Nokhatha Junior” program, which aims to teach students the basics of sailing bearings and thus developing their abilities and refining their skills to join races of larger categories.
