Mohammed inaugurates phase 2 of Solar Park

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday inaugurated the Phase 2 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Part at Seih Al Dahal in Dubai.
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council and HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, accompanied Sheikh Mohammed.
The AED 1.5 billion solar plant generates 200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 50,000 household and reduces Dubai’s carbon emission by over 200,000 tones.
Sheikh Mohammed also toured the sideline exhibition that displays DEWA’s projects and initiatives in the field of clean energy since 2011. Sheikh Mohammed congratulated DEWA staff and partners on the implementation of the Phase 2 and what has been achieved in a record time. He also deemed the event as a national achievement accomplished by the country.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and MD of DEWA welcomed Sheikh Mohammed’s long-term vision for clean energy, which directly contributes to the efforts aiming to
secure community happiness and welfare.

The solar park, which is based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, offers a host of promising investment opportunities to strengthen partnerships and investments between the public and private sectors in the field of energy.
In January 2012, Sheikh Mohammed launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the IPP model, over an area of 77 square kilometres. The solar park has a total planned capacity of 1,000MW by 2020, and 5,000MW by 2030, with a total investment of AED 50 billion. After completion, the solar park will reduce 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions
annually.
