MBRSG launches ‘UAE public policy perspectives’ book

The Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), the research and education institution specializing in public policy in the Arab world, has launched its academic book UAE Public Policy Perspectives at a gala dinner at the International Business Academy Conference, held between July 1-5, with the participation of 1,040 researchers and academics representing 76 countries.
UAE Public Policy Perspectives is a first-of-its kind analysis, comprising 20 chapters and prepared by 20 local and international academics. The book highlights the pioneering and unique experience of the UAE in several strategic areas, most importantly leadership planning and implementation; governance; economy; and sustainable development. It explains how these policies have been implemented under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and the continuous follow-up by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The book focuses on the UAE public policy and presents several case studies that provide insights into the UAE leadership; the areas the government has prioritized; and how these contribute to achieving the goals of UAE Vision 2021. It includes insights on provocative topics by thought leaders including Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Cabinet Member and UAE Minister of State for Tolerance; Fadi Ghandour, Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Aramex & Managing Partner, Wamda Capital; and Christopher M. Schroeder, Venture Investor and Author.
The book is divided into six sections: government leadership; national competitive advantage; social and sustainable development; national human capital development; entrepreneurship; and government systems. The book also sheds light on the UAE Vision 2021, which aims for the UAE to be one of the top 10 countries in the world, through increased competitiveness and entrepreneurship. Moreover, the book also reviews the most pressing government-led plans, including preparing for a post-oil economy and sustainable development.
The book was launched by H.E. Dr. Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of “MBRSG”, and Professor Masaaki Kotabe, President of The Academy of International Business and Professor Sarianna Lundan, Program Chair, with the presence of Professor Raed Awamleh, Dean of “MBRSG”; Shamma Essa Sultan Lootah, Manager of Awareness & Building Capabilities at the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA); Professor Melodena Stephens Balakrishnan; Dr. Immanuel Azaad Moonesar; Dr Guy Burton; Dr Racquel Warner, MBRSG Faculty members, and Dr Balan Sundarakani, and Flevy Lasrado, University of Wollongong Faculty members.
H.E. Dr. Ali Sebaa Al Marri said: “The UAE Public Policy Perspectives, holds significant importance, as it is the first analytical academic study to provide a holistic overview of the trends and activities of government over the past decades, during which the leaders of the UAE have demonstrated continued excellence in the fields of governance and where the state has proven its ability to achieve long-term strategic objectives.”

Professor Raed Al Awamleh said: “The book documents and explains the mechanisms and polices of the UAE which have attracted international attention due to the high achievements of the government, especially through its focus on innovation, its anticipation of future trends, and its adoption of policies based on international best practice but tailored to suit the UAE’s unique environment and society.”
Dr. Immanuel Azaad Moonesar one of the authors of the book, said: “in preparing the book we were keen to demonstrate a comprehensive academic perspective, which includes opinions, studies, analyses and insights into what shapes the government’s roadmap towards achieving the goals and aspirations of the UAE people.” Professor Masaaki Kotabe added: “We are proud to launch UAE Public Policy Perspectives in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government, which will mark a turning point in the academic view of the UAE’s pioneering experience in the formulation of its public policy.”
