Investment bank Jefferies Group is reorganising its energy group, according to a letter seen by Bloomberg.
Pete Bowden, the current co-head of energy banking and the leader of Jefferies’s midstream franchise, will become global head of energy, according to the letter from Ralph Eads, the chairman of the group. Guy Oliphint and Greg Chitty have been promoted to co-heads of the upstream group while Brian Conner and Brian Bravo are now co-heads of midstream banking. Ajay Khurana, who was the co-head of energy, left the bank this month to join Quantum Energy Partners.
“Under Pete’s stewardship, our midstream team has advised on nearly $170 billion in midstream M&A, making Jefferies the No. 1 adviser to this sector,†Eads said in the letter sent to employees in the past week. “Pete will bring his 20 years of experience as a trusted adviser, innovative ideas and deep industry knowledge to our entire energy client base in his expanded role.â€
In the past 18 months, the Jefferies energy team has been a financial adviser on North American midstream deals valued in excess of $9 billion, including the sale of EagleClaw Midstream Ventures to Blackstone Energy Partners for $2 billion and Global Infrastructure Partners’ purchase of Medallion Gathering & Processing LLC for $1.8 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Jefferies Chief Executive Officer Rich Handler and Brian Friedman, president of Jefferies Financial Group, said they’re confident the New York-based bank will continue to rank as a top energy company adviser under the leadership of Eads and Bowden.
“Jefferies Energy Investment Banking is a longstanding leader and on track for one of its best years ever,†Handler and Friedman said in an emailed statement confirming the promotions. “We remain dedicated to the core principles that have made us the market leader: providing value-adding insights and advice to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.â€
Oliphint joined Jefferies more than 15 years ago, according to the memo. Chitty started in 2010, after working at Sierra Resources and Weatherford International, according to his LinkedIn profile.
