Within its endeavour to co-operate with relevant entities in undertaking its regulatory role, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Authority of Ports, Border and Free Zones Security (MANAFTH).
The MoU aims to promote co-operation in the field of radioactive and nuclear materials security in UAE.
Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, and Jasim Mohammed Al Zaabi, Director General of MANAFTH signed the MoU in presence of a number of directors and managers from both sides. The agreement ratified by both parties includes co-operation in the field of radioactive and nuclear materials security and detection at the ports, border and free zones in UAE. The MoU shall also facilitate application of the relevant regulatory requirements and training of the employees of both parties in the field of ports, border and free zones security.
“We are committed with providing the technical support and guidance to all the concerned parties in order to maintain the radioactive and nuclear materials security in UAE,” Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation, said.
This MoU falls within the FANR’s vision to enhance its role as a regulator on the UAE’s nuclear sector and steer its efforts to co-ordinate with the relevant entities in order to fully undertake its role and responsibilities.
