The 7th annual conference of the Emirates Dermatology Society focused on several important recommendations. Firstly, it emphasized the need to highlight recent advancements in cosmetic treatments and treatments for chronic skin diseases. Secondly, it called for enhancing continuing education for resident doctors in the field of dermatology. Thirdly, it emphasized the importance of updating standards for cosmetic treatment protocols in order to minimize the risks and negative effects on patients.
The society also announced its upcoming collaboration with medical and health authorities to launch a registration program in the country. This program aims to ensure better regulation and monitoring of dermatological practices.
Dr. Muna Al Murrawi, President of the Emirates Dermatology Society and Chairman of the Conference, highlighted the focus of this year’s conference on educating doctors about new cosmetic treatments and lasers. The conference facilitated workshops in cooperation with the European Dermatology Society. Additionally, the conference addressed new treatments for patients with conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, alopecia, and hidradenitis, among other skin diseases.
The society is also actively involved in the treatment of alopecia, utilizing new treatments approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It aims to increase patient awareness to minimize the side effects of these treatments on their lives.
Dr. Al Murrawi emphasized that eczema is the most common chronic skin disease in the UAE, followed by acne, alopecia, psoriasis, and vitiligo. She mentioned the efforts made by the United Arab Emirates in studying the genetic factors and the genome to reduce and control genetic diseases
Furthermore, the society announced its plan to launch a program that will accurately determine the prevalence of skin diseases, eliminating the need for estimations. This program will record cases throughout the Emirates, providing accurate statistics on the most common diseases and conducting studies to determine their causes. The Emirates Dermatology Society will also participate in a workshop at the American Society’s conference in March 2024.
The conference successfully connected over 500 doctors from the region and the world, who participated in discussions on the latest developments and scientific research related to skin diseases. It also provided insights into the latest advancements and technologies used in medicine and plastic surgery.
