DHA directs insurance companies to accept applications in 2017

Dubai / WAM

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced that insurance companies are to continue accepting health insurance applications into 2017 due to the high influx of customers flocking to insurance companies in the last few days of the year and in consideration of those who were not able to get insurance in time due to circumstances. More than four million, or 98 percent, of Dubai residents are now covered by Dubai Health Insurance.
According to the law, which came into effect in January 2014, the legal liability for every sponsor is to provide an essential insurance package, fixed between AED550 and AED700, so that those with salaries under AED4,000 receive adequate cover.
Dr. Haidar Al Yousuf, Director of Health Funding at DHA said all the insurance companies are working nonstop to cope with companies and individuals who want to acquire health insurance. He added that there has also been a large number of online transactions on the insurance company’s websites.
