DED-Kinokuniya pact to promote culture of reading

The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai and world-leading bookstore Kinokuniya have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly promote a culture of reading and create spaces for knowledge and innovation.
Under the MoU, Kinokuniya will provide books on diverse topics to be displayed in the public library and the Smart Lounge of DED where customers can avail of a range of smart services relating to business registration and licensing and other topics.
The MoU was signed by Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General of DED, and Yukihiro Kawakami, Group Managing Director of Kinokuniya Bookshop LLC.
“The Department of Economic Development has launched a number of innovative initiatives to promote reading and disseminate knowledge among our employees and customers. With one of the world’s leading bookstores joining us as a partner now, our offices will evolve into spaces to gain information and insights on varied topics and also promote the habit of reading, thus helping to develop a knowledgeable society. It will also help sustain a culture of reading thereby reinforcing the march of the UAE towards a knowledge-based economy,” said Ali Ibrahim.
“Our vision is to create opportunities for contacts between cultures and civilizations and nurture local talent. Therefore, it is our honor to support DED in this activity, which promotes reading among the local community,” said Kawakami.
