Croatia all set to join EU’s visa-free Schengen zone

Six years after Croatia joined the European Union, the Balkan nation is getting a green light from the European Commission to join the bloc’s passport-free Schengen area.
The decision was expected to be made public on Tuesday, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be named because the judgment is private. The European Council would still need to sign off on Croatia’s accession. Croatia is the last country to join the EU.
“The commission’s work to successfully finalise all the Schengen evaluations as soon as possible has progressed well,” according to an emailed statement from the Brussels-based body. “Croatia should become a full Schengen member once all the criteria are met.”
