Abu Dhabi hosts five marine championships this weekend in a special carnival for the marine sports enthusiasts. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, the championships will be held at the UAE capital’s breakwater starting from February 23-26.
First round of Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship will start on Thursday and will last for four days to conclude Sunday. On Friday, Rabdan Race for Sailing Dhows 22-foot starts in conjunction with the Maritime Heritage Festival, where a ceremony honouring the winners will take place on Abu Dhabi Corniche. On Saturday, the first round of the UAE MotoSurf Championship will begin. The Academy’s Modern Rowing Race will be held in conjunction with Laser and Optimist Sailboats Race on Sunday.
The hosting of the races comes with the aim of turning Abu Dhabi’s breakwater into an attractive tourist destination, meeting the needs of competitors in all marine sport categories, in parallel with the club’s constant interest in the diversity of modern and traditional sports through various competitions and tournaments.
Salem Al Rumaithi, director general of the club, thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, and stressed that Sheikh Mohammed’s continuous support and interest comes to ameliorate the level of marine sports, support its presence, and expand it in various parts of the capital.
Al Rumaithi stressed that hosting five championships in the same week is a great challenge in terms of organization and supervision, considering the large number of participants in the competitions. “We are always working for distinguished marine sports in the capital by marking the best records.”
Al Rumaithi invited marine sports enthusiasts to attend all competitions as they will be complimentarily accessible. The club is always committed to provide fun and entertainment when it comes to marine sports, in addition to expanding their presence which equally serves the ultimate goal of organising them in various beaches and areas.
