The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO), in collaboration with the UAE Deaf Association, has announced the establishment of the Deaf Youth Council, marking a significant milestone in empowering people of determination and showcasing their immense capabilities and potential in contributing to societal growth and development.
The formation of the Deaf Youth Council aligns with ZHO’s commitment to implementing the country’s directives aimed at investing in the youth and leveraging their skills to actively participate in society.
Abdullah Abdul-Ali Al-Humaidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, emphasised that the nation’s visionary youth are the driving force behind its promising future. “The establishment of the Deaf Youth Council, consisting of 11 talented Emirati members, reflects the leadership’s vision to empower Emirati youth to become role models and leaders among the global youth community. This vision is based on providing quality education, engaging with young individuals by listening to their perspectives and ideas, and implementing them effectively.â€
The council’s primary objective is to empower deaf youth at both local and international levels, enabling their active participation in global forums and facilitating their integration into society to bring about substantial positive change. Additionally, it aims to enhance their awareness of the importance of their role in raising community awareness in the UAE.
Al-Humaidan further highlighted that the Deaf Youth Council will strive to ensure equal access to education, equip young people with the necessary skills for the job market, provide education on human rights to promote equality and foster linguistic and cultural identity. Moreover, it will establish a comprehensive agenda of activities and initiatives for the deaf community at local and global levels.
